2006 Calendar of Activities for Eagle

Because of Eagle's semiretired life from showing, we have had to think of other things to entertain him and keep him busy. Eagle is not ready to stop and at age 12 is still going strong. It has been one fun Summer with ALSA's most award winning llama!

In March, Eagle went to the Virginia Christensen Classic Show in Reno Nevada as a requested guest to carry Virginia out to the arena.

While there he was entered in the performance and halter. He took in halter, 3 firsts, 1 second & 1 grand and 1 reserve. In performance he took 3 reserve grands.

May was spent driving at the NW Driving Rendezvous in Idaho

June started with a five mile drive in the Portland Rose Festival Parade with Grandma

Then we finished Eagle's PLTA Master Packer certification in one weekend. Packing 17 miles in two days with 2,000 foot elevation gain and 61lbs packed. Eagle was the first llama in from the course both days!

The next weekend we were in Plymouth CA at the LANA Expo Show. At the last minute Eagle entered the driving and performance classes there. He won both driving classes and both performance champions. Eagle's offspring took 2nd place in Get of Sire also. His son CIR Aguila De Oro (aka Little E) took Reserve Grand Novice Performance both judges (shown by owner Rezina Zeiler) his first time in a performance class!

In July we did the Sedro Woolley 4th of July Parade with friend Marilynn Larson riding in our cart.

We also spent a lot of time driving in the Nooksack River with friends (Karen, Rezina & David). Sometimes in water so deep we couldn't see the carts! Boy did we have fun and how cold the water was.

At the end of July we were able to finally accomplish Eagle's Delta Society Pet Therapy Certification. We have wanted to do this for a long time and Eagle passed with a perfect score. His son Little E also passed to be a Delta Society llama. Thank you to Lenore and Tatsuki Kobayashi and Diane Rich for their help in achieving this!

September we were asked to participate in a Japanese magazine interview at Delta Society Headquarters in Bellevue Washington. It was really fun and this magazine will be out in November 2006. Thank you to Diane Rich for including us in this opportunity!

Our year ended with Eagle attending the 2006 ALSA Grand Nationals. While there he won both pleasure and obstacle driving, earning him the 2006 National Driving Champion trophy. This trophy is being given to Niki's Grandmother as her 90th Birthday was the day before we drove. Eagle also won Champion Adult Medium Wool Male and missed the Grand/Reserve by one spot. He was third overall in the medium wool male division. Eagle won third in obstacle and seventh in pack performance. We are so proud of our boy!

An article on Eagle (written by Niki) was featured in Camelid Quarterly magazine at their request in December 2006.

Still having fun and going strong in and out of the showring at age 12.5!
