This Actually happened to me in a customer's house. The customer dropped a whole packet of 24 small emeralds. Luckily the rug wasn't nailed down and the owners were sympathetic; they agreed to help me pick it up and shake it over a bed sheet. We found every one, plus some paper clips and some loose change too. They were pretty embarrassed about all the dirt though.
