Welcome! We are Niki and Jeff Kuklenski and we own JNK Llamas in Bellingham, Washington. Niki has been showing llamas since the mid-80's. She also has experience with showing pigs, sheep, horses and drafthorses. She was one of the first llama 4-H and FFA youth in Washington State. The most unique part of the whole experience was that she did not even own her own llama until 1997. Niki had always shown and trained llamas for other farms. Jeff grew up as a city kid who always wanted a horse and to live in the country. In the Spring of 1997 Niki purchased half interest in a young male llama she had been showing. Isle Eagle was such a willing and beautiful animal she had to have him. After marrying in 1998, we made arrangements to own 100% of Eagle. Our herd of 14 currently has four ALSA Halter Champions. Eagle our main herdsire is the most winning llama in the nation and one of only two Breeder Elite's in the show system. Dazador our gelding is a Non-Breeder Elite of which there are only seven in the country. We also have two certified PLTA Master Packers and three Delta Society certified pet therapy llamas. The girls we use have all produced Champions or are maiden girls being shown. Our herd is very diverse and we do everything with them! In 1998 we started our own business of showing, grooming, consulting, clinics, brokering, sales, lessons and very select breeding services. We are active volunteers and have our own 4-H group. JNK Llamas belongs to ALSA (Alpaca Llama Show Association), LANA, Llama Rescue Net & Southwest Washington Llama Association. Niki currently sits on the board for Llama Rescue Net (LRN) and is a part of the Classic Focus group for the ILR. She writes for various association newsletters, American Livestock Magazine, Backcountry Llama and Llama Banner. Niki is an ILR & ALSA Level Halter & Senior Performance Judge and substitute school teacher. Jeff is a pharmaceutical representative for Merck. We are some of the ONLY people in the llama indusry that actually do show, pack, drive, therapy work, 4-H, spinning (fiber related work), breeding and rescue. This has allowed us to evaluate our herd from a very critical user's eye and has helped us to build the current herd we have. We are both very dedicated to doing what is right for our llamas and new owners. Having a good fit for a new owner helps to insure that a llama has a lifelong home. As we have done llama rescue from less than ideal situations, we understand the problems that come about when a new owner is sold a llama that they are not totally educated about. Select breeding is important to ensure the best genetic and conformationally sound crosses possible. We breed for "All Around" llamas. Llamas that excel in not only halter, but performance, packing and public relations settings. We are breeding just a few girls a year as that is what we can efficiently train and work with. Instead of breeding for numbers, we breed for quality. By only having a few cria a year, we are able to focus our energy into those animals to make sure they are well trained and socialized. All of our crias shown placed Grand Champion Novice Performance in large classes at their very first ALSA shows. Please contact us with any questions about llamas or our program.
