William PATTEN
was born about 1725 in Armagh, Ireland and died before May 1794 in Bourbon Co,
Kentucky. William's will was dated 31 July 1794 and
recorded at the May 1795 Court in Bourbon Co. His will names his eldest son
Joseph, sons Thomas, John, William, single daughters Mary, Rosannah, Elizabeth,
and other daughters Martha, Rebecca, Sarah, Anna, and son-in-law Joseph McClintock.
It was signed in the presence of Joseph McClintock, James Rea, William
McClintock and approved by heirs Joseph Patton, Thomas Patton, John Patton,
William Patton, Mary Patton, Rosanna Patton, Elizabeth Patton, William Holliday,
Joseph McClintock, William Morrow and James Steel.
An abbreviated version of this family is
given here as it has been researched extensively by others and can be found on other web
sites. My intent here is to show descent from William Patten to John Gowdy
through the marriage of his daughter Ann/Nancy to James Steele and the
subsequent marriage
of Ann and James' daughter, Ann Steele, to
John GOWDY.
The name of William's wife was not
definitely determined at the time of this writing.
