🌍🍽️ International Food + Culture Fest 2026: Many Journeys, One Community

We’re excited to be back for the 4th International Food + Culture Fest, organized by The Rhizome Center for Migrants in celebration of International Migrants Day!

Black in Guadalajara has proudly participated in this celebration since the very first festival, and this year we’re returning with something especially meaningful.

❤️🍽️ TWO SUNDAY TABLES 🇺🇸🌍🇿🇦

Kia Yee, founder of Black in Guadalajara, and Oageng Tsatsi of South Africa are bringing two Black food traditions together at one table in Guadalajara.

Two Sunday traditions.

Our tasting will feature:

🥔 Southern Soul Food Potato Salad — a familiar part of African American Sunday dinners, cookouts, celebrations, and family gatherings.🍞 Dombolo — soft, fluffy South African steamed bread.🌶️ Chakalaka — a bold and flavorful South African vegetable relish.

These aren’t fusion dishes. They are two distinct Black culinary traditions being shared side by side, connected by something Kia and Oageng immediately recognized in each other’s stories:

Sunday. Family. Church. Gathering. Home. Love. Warmth. Community.

And there’s something especially fitting about bringing our two Sunday tables together on a Sunday in Mexico.

Black in Guadalajara will also host a graffiti writing activity led by Martin (DJ Martin Yee), where participants can explore graffiti lettering and create something of their own.For four festivals, this celebration has given people from different countries, cultures, and migration experiences an opportunity to meet one another through food, art, creativity, and storytelling.

We’re honored to have been part of that journey from the very beginning and can’t wait to celebrate the fourth edition with everyone. Many journeys.
