A Ring of Petals
A watercolor wreath workshop

A wreath is such a small thing to want to make, and such a lovely one. A circle of flowers with some text in the middle. That's all it is, and it's enough.

If you've been meaning to paint one and haven't yet, or you've painted a few and something about them isn't sitting right, come along. There's nothing you need to know before you arrive.

What we'll do together

• Where to begin, and why the first few things you place matter so much
• The four kinds of elements in a wreath, and what each one is quietly doing
• How leaves sit along a curve
• Where to leave space, and why the empty parts are just as considered as the full ones
• Moving the weight around a ring, so it can be heavy at the base, or gathered on one side, or split
• Holding to three colors (especially in the beginning while we are figuring things out), and finding many greens inside them
• The center. Sizing a text, placing it, and letting the flowers and letters belong to each other
• What happens when the text is long
• Shapes past the circle, once the circle feels like yours

A few things you might be wondering

✿ I'm in India. Can I pay by UPI?

Yes, of course. Use the QR code below or just send me a message on Instagram or drop me an email on galleryofshreya@gmail.com and I'll share the details.

✿ Will you be providing with reference materials?
Yes! A detailed handout would be sent to you before the class.

✿ I've never done calligraphy.
That's completely fine. We work simple, you need not know calligraphy in general. Handwriting is plenty beautiful, and a single letter in the middle is always gorgeous too.

✿ What do I need?
For starters - watercolor paper, 2 round brushes, few of your favorite watercolors, water, tissue, and something round to trace. A full list (including some optional supplies) will be sent to you beforehand.

✿ Do I need special paints?
No. I encourage you to bring whatever you have :)

✿ Is it live?
Yes it would be live on zoom, and it's recorded, so you'll have the replay if you can't be there or want to go slowly.

✿ How long will the recordings be available?
They would be available for a month.

✿ How can I share my work or connect with everyone else?
There'll be a Padlet, which is a shared community board just for this group. You can add your work there, look through everyone else's, and leave a note on the ones you love. It stays open after the session, so there's no rush. Some people post the same evening and some a week later, and both are lovely.

What you'll take away

A wreath with a lot of cute decorative elements, perfect for yourself or for gifting.

And more than that, a way of building the next one. In a different shape, with different flowers, for someone else entirely. You won't need a reference again.
