Strength, Light and the Quiet Persistence of Peace

Lighthouse 13 emerges from Albert Chung's ongoing exploration of inner peace, light and the strength required to remain grounded while continuing to evolve.

Executed on traditional Xuan paper, the painting brings together a substantial field of strong Chinese black ink and luminous Western blue acrylic ink. The deep black does not represent darkness or negativity. For Albert, it embodies strength—the strength to persist, to continue researching and developing one's artistic practice, and to remain grounded in one's identity while embracing new experiences.

Against and around this strong central field, blue acrylic colour opens the painting into a different visual and emotional space. The blue is not simply a contrasting colour. It represents openness, light and possibility: a contemporary Western material entering into dialogue with the strength and heritage of Chinese ink.

This encounter between black Chinese ink and blue acrylic ink reflects an important aspect of Albert's artistic journey: remaining rooted while continuing to evolve. The two materials retain their individual character, yet their interaction creates something that neither could produce alone.

The painting is also connected to the contemplative foundation of the Lighthouse Collection. Through meditation, Albert explores experiences of light, colour and subtle frequencies, translating these experiences into abstract painting. The Lighthouse becomes a metaphor for maintaining one's own inner light: an individual may not be able to control the turbulence of the wider world, but can cultivate inner peacefulness and allow that presence to positively influence those nearby.

Within the broader Confluence project, this peacefulness encounters the joyfulness of fellow Hong Kong artist TK Chan. Their two artistic energies meet without losing their individual identities—strength and openness, peacefulness and joyfulness, tradition and contemporary expression.

Lighthouse 13 is therefore not intended to illustrate a particular scene or narrative. It offers a space for the viewer to pause, look and experience the relationship between strength, colour, light and stillness.

The work invites a simple possibility:

To remain strong.
To remain open.
To keep one's light.
And to allow peace to travel outward.

About the Artists

Albert Chung (b. 1971, Hong Kong) is an artist whose practice explores the intersection of light, energy, and abstract expression. He is currently the Artist in Residence for the We Are Creators 2026 programme at The Wilson Art Gallery & Museum in Cheltenham, United Kingdom.

TK Chan (b. 1984, Hong Kong) is a highly acclaimed mixed-media artist known for her unique fusion of Western and Chinese artistic traditions. She holds a Master of Design (MDes) from Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland and a second Master's degree in Art History and Curation from Hong Kong. Her work has been exhibited extensively across Hong Kong, Mainland China, Southeast Asia, Australia, and the United Kingdom, and is held in private and corporate collections worldwide. Shipping will be arranged within 14 days upon receipt of full payment. Unless otherwise specified, we typically engage the services of Post Office, UPS, FedEx, or DHL for delivery.

Packaging Method
The packaging method depends on the framing status of the artwork:

• With existing frame: The artwork will be securely packed in its frame, carefully wrapped with bubble wrap, and placed in a carton box for safe transit. This method provides adequate protection while keeping costs reasonable.
• Without frame (unframed): The artwork will be carefully rolled and protected with archival-grade materials, then placed in a shipping tube to prevent creasing or damage during transit.

For buyers requiring additional protection—such as custom wooden crating or reinforced packaging—please discuss this with us prior to purchase. Such specialized packing can be arranged upon request, though additional costs will apply. We will be happy to provide a quote based on your specific requirements.

Insurance

• Display away from direct sunlight and moisture to prevent fading, discolouration, or damage to the ink and paper.

Framing Recommendations
For optimal protection, we advise professional framing with the following considerations:

1. UV-Filtering Glazing: Use ultraviolet-filtering glass or acrylic. 99.9% anti-UV options are available on the market to protect against light damage.
2. Acid-Free Mounting: Use acid-free mount board to prevent yellowing and deterioration of the paper over time.
3. Moisture Barrier: Add a moisture barrier at the back of the frame—for example, a sheet of specialist aluminium foil placed between the backboard and the mount—to protect against humidity.
4. Sealed Backing: Apply water-resistant frame backing tape to seal the back of the frame, providing an additional layer of protection against dust and moisture.
5. Air Circulation: Attach cork bumpers to the lower corners of the back of the frame using PVA adhesive. This creates an air gap between the frame and the wall, allowing airflow behind the frame and preventing mould spores from settling.
