"Okāsan お母さん" - Wild snow monkeys in the Japanese Alps (Fine Art Framed Print, limited edition)

A quiet hiking of Kamikōchi (上高地) can suddenly transform into pure tension. Peace in the Japanese Alps it's also accompanied by risk. Bear attacks are the biggest threat in Hida mountains for "Macaca fuscata", the wild local monkeys almost celebrities for living in the snow. Okāsan お母さん (how a mom is called with tenderness in Japan) observes carefully to every foreign visitor passing by. Any wrong step in the woods can produce an aggressive reaction of the females who protect their babies. This one was a very special experience for me, as it took me half a day to reach this place while hitchhiking on the road and later hiking alone in the forest. Monkeys get together into big families when the sun is coming down for protecting, so during my return I could hear their gossip in the trees as if they were whispering about my intrusion.
