A guy who runs a key shop and definitely isn't a wizard. But something is off. The bakery's been giving out the wrong change for weeks. The bus routes don't quite add up. Yesterday, a kid's homework looked back at him. The adults don't notice anything. It's up to the kids to save the world by paying close attention to the strange stuff adults ignore. You play as a small hero with a backpack and a suspiciously strong grasp of place value. You'll wander the city, befriend a kid and his rabbit who want to reach the stars, a zen-master snail, and a hip-hop chicken — and battle Multiplication Monsters in the supermarket parking lot. Along the way, you'll master the lost art of Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract math and put the numbers back where they belong. WHY WE'RE MAKING THIS Most kids' math apps are slot machines wearing cartoon costumes. They're built around dopamine loops, not real understanding. My 6-year-old son deserved better, so we started building Neighborhood Number Heroes ourselves. We make it by two strict rules: 1. It has to be genuinely fun. No slot-machine mechanics. No dopamine traps. Just imagination, neighborhood weirdness, and the kind of jokes a 6-year-old finds devastatingly funny — the kind of game I grew up on (EarthBound, Stardew Valley, Undertale, Hollow Knight, Terraria). 2. It has to teach real math. Singapore Math's CPA method. Deep conceptual understanding. The kind of skills that hold up when the homework starts looking back. By finishing the levels, your kid actually masters the math. My co-founder is Liam, age 6. He draws the art, invents the worlds, and tests every level. My target audience is sitting right next to me. WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW After a month of building together, we have a working prototype with a real math engine and a small, strange town starting to take shape.In 3 weeks we're launching the first playable version.
